Battle with the Coffee Mug

There I was…

Loading the dishwasher this evening…

I was just going about my business, loading, loading, loading…

When I came to…

The coffee mug.

I proceeded to carry on with my duty, as I began to seperate the cup from it’s lid.

You see, you have to be careful when pulling the lid from the cup when there is still left over coffee in it, because you can end up with coffee all over the place.  (Yes, this has happened.)

As much as I tried to pry the lid from the cup, using all my strength, something was preventing me from detaching it.

You see, it just wouldn’t budge!

Okay, you may be thinking, “what?  Is she writing a whole blog post on her puney little struggle with a coffee cup lid???”

No, my friend.  That is not case.

Well, okay, maybe partly. ;)

See, if you were there in the kitchen with me, you would have been an eye witness to an all out battle, while my family watched in bewilderment from the family room behind me.

I was runnin’ around like a crazy woman!  You should of seen me!  Bashing that cup from counter to counter…

Okay, it wasn’t that intense.  But I was seriously already contemplating that solution.

After minutes of pure madness, I excepted defeat.  I *firmly* set that coffee mug down on the counter in complete exhaustion, and told my mom that it would just be better off in the garbage.

Then Kelly walks in… walks over to the mug, removes it from under my long stare of frustration, unscrews the lid, places it back onto the counter, and walks away.

You know, sometimes some things are just never learned…

Note:  Just so you know, all of my dad’s coffee mugs but this one, do pull apart.  This is the only one where the lid has to be unscrewed.

  2. They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing the same way over and over again and expecting different results. So to make a biblical analogy from this so much of our CHRISTIAN walk is learned behavior we do over and over and over again. It is not until some unexpected result arises in our every day doing and doing that we oft times take the time to pause and reflect on how we do things and why. It is at these times that we should pause to consider the hows and the whys of life. God sometimes has to throw us curve balls in the game of life to force us to reconsider our ways of doing things. Religion and our Christian walk can become very routine if we are never challenged.

Thank God for the curve balls of life!

  3. HAHAHAHA!!!!!! Oh my. That is so hilarious – and the funniest part about it is that I do stuff like that ALL the time. And I get such a kick out of myself – and out of other people doing it. Makes my day! lol. Things are so simple – it’s a wonder that our human minds do not stop to consider the very basic things, isn’t it? :)

  4. Allen – “Blond” moments? Well, I have had a few…or maybe more than I would like to admit. :D

    • They tell me blond moments turn into SENIOR Moments I simply blame it all on the hereafter. I many times find myself going into a room and wondering what I am here after. Therefore I simply blame all those blond moments on too much thinking about the here after. :)

      • Yep. That’s my parents – they walk into a room and don’t remember what they came in there for! My mom says it’s an over 40 thing. :)

        Something I’m not looking forward too… :)
