VBS week

Wow, I seriously cannot believe it is August already!  My summer is going by pretty quickly!

Well, as for a small update: last week, my friend, Samantha and I had the great opportunity to serve at a local church’s vacation Bible school.  Sam and I got to work in the kindergarten class with our younger siblings together, and we both had a really great time!  The church sets up this whole carnival thing in the parking lot with mini donuts, popcorn, cotton candy, clowns, slides, toys, hayrides… it’s pretty cool.  We were both in charge of our little group of six each evening, and though it was a bit stressful at times, it definitely was well worth it!  The kids were so adorable and sweet, and I immediately fell in love with them.   Oh, I miss them so much still!!  I continue to pray for them everynight.  God brought them into my life for a reason, even if it was only a week. :)

One little girl imparticular, named Halima, was especially cute.  It was the last day of VBS, and I was sitting at her table, and I asked her, “Out of the whole carnival and VBS, what did you love the most?”  Without even thinking she turns to me, smiles and says, “My teachers”.  Then she gives me this big hug and tells me that she loves me so much!  Isn’t that the sweetest thing?  I just love her…

I find I’m always drawn to children, and just seeing the excitement in their faces when you take the time to show them how much you really care and love them, by expressing interest even in the small things, giving sincere praise and encouragement when they’ve accomplished something, and making them feel special when you go out of your way to help them and give them that thumbs up, is so rewarding.

You know, this week really was a confirmation for me, it is now so clear for me that I want to work with children one day. I’ve always loved kids and loved babysitting and practically anything to do with little children, but it’s like this week really confirmed it.  Whether it be a mentor, teacher, helper, or volunteer work with children in the future it really doesn’t matter.  I would love to do them all.  It’s where ever God leads me…

For now, though, I’m going to be looking forward to helping out next year, and definitely keeping my eyes open for anymore serving opportunities! :D

  1. Oh… that is so adorable! I love being with kids at mainly music (an outreach program for Mums and kids), at Church, and at homeschool co-ops! What is even more special is when they love you back! :)

    God bless!
