“I don’t believe I’m a sinner…”

Here is a reply from one of my readers regarding my post, Hell’s Best Kept Secret: The Cure:

I suppose this is aimed at people who already believe in god and already believe in Jesus and already believe that the Bible is the word of god and not just a collection of myths?

I don’t believe I’m a sinner, I don’t believe in sin. I believe in right and wrong and ethics, but I’m not going to take that from the Bible…the Bible is the last place I would look for ethics, or truth for that matter.

And I believe that Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort are either extremely deluded, or dishonest people who get a kick out of telling people they’re going to hell.

Dear linzee,

I thank you for reading my post and commenting.  For starters, you said you don’t believe you’re a sinner and you don’t believe in sin.

First, let me start out with the definition of sin.  The definition of sin, from the Noah Webster 1828 American Dictionary of the English Language states:

Any voluntary transgression of the divine law, or violation of a divine command; a wicked act; iniquity.  Sin comprehends not actions only, but neglect of known duty, all evil thoughts, purposes, words and desires, whatever is contrary to God’s commands or law.

Matthew 15:19  “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.”

1 Corinthians 6:9,10 “Do not be deceived:  Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor practicing homosexuals nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

Let’s say, somebody murdered a family member of yours, and they were caught and are standing before a judge.  This murderer believed that he was justified in taking the life of your family member.  He saw no wrong in it.  He had his reasons.

Do you think, he could be excused from just punishment on the basis of his own moral judgment?   What if the murderer asks for forgiveness?  He begs the judge to let him go free because he thinks, over all he is a good person.  After all, it is only one crime.  He has lived a pretty good life otherwise.   Maybe the murderer doesn’t believe in the whole justice system?

What do you think the judge should do?

Who determines what is right and what is wrong?  If it is up to each individual, then maybe for example, one may find it okay to steal because they are in “need”, but another may think that stealing is wrong at all times needless of the conditions.  Right and wrong need to be based on something.  This world would be chaos if it were all up to everyone themselves!

Our laws are based on the Ten Commandments.  Our Christian forefathers looked to God and His Word as they set up civil governments in North America.  America was founded as a Christian nation.  Though all the men and women who settled this nation were not Christians,  still Christian principles, laws, and virtues were the foundation of our nation.

Now, I can’t change what you believe.  But, let me ask you something: what if you were wrong?? Just what if?  Ten out of ten people die.  This is for certain.  We will be judged according to God’s law after we die.  Then we will either be sent to one of two places: to Heaven or to Hell – for all eternity.  Wouldn’t it be terrifying to realize in the end, that you were wrong?

Ecclesiastes 12: 14 “For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether good or evil.”

Here is a story of a man who realized only too late that hell is real…  Luke 16:19-31 (summarized)

“The rich man also died and was buried.  In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.  So he called to him … ‘I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have five brothers.  Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.”

And please understand, Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort, nor I for that matter think this is all just a big joke.  I seriously doubt, after all the effort and work they have put into their Way of the Master ministry, that it’s all just for kicks.  It is out of the love and concern we have for your soul that we share this!

I will be praying for you linzee :)
