Imagine I’m a doctor. If I were to give you a cure, would you take it? Come on, it’s a cure! It’s wonderful! Well, you’d probably be confused and ask me why you would be in any need of it. Because as far as you know, you aren’t sick and you don’t see anything wrong with yourself, right? I’m sure I couldn’t bribe you into taking it either, because all you want to know is precisely why you need to take it, correct? I agree.
Unless you are convinced of your disease, you wouldn’t see the need to take the cure.
Now if I told you, you are suffering from a serious terminal disease and I can see ten clear symptoms on your flesh as proof – you will die in two weeks. Now would you take it? I’m sure you would. Anyone in their right mind would! After all, you are in some serious need here!
Once you take the cure, you will need to faithfully apply it to your life or it won’t take effect on you. It’s common sense!
See, the cure is the Gospel. And the disease is your sinful state – your sin. This is how it goes…
- You need to understand you are a sinner (understand your disease)
- Realize you are in need of a Savior (in need of the cure)
- Repent and believe (take the cure)
- and obey God’s Word and apply his teachings to your life every day, becoming more and more like Christ (follow and obey the directions of your cure).
Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron will take you through each of the Ten Commandments in this video. It is clear that each of us are so far from perfect! We all have broken God’s law and will be judged accordingly. That is why we need to acknowledge that, repent, and turn away from our sin, asking God into our hearts to save us. HE is the cure.
Though we live in a time when people don’t like to talk about sin, only those who understand to some degree the enormity of their spiritual debt can begin to appreciate what Christ did for them at the cross. Without some heartfelt conviction of our sin, we can have no serious feeling of personal interest in the gospel. What’s more, this conviction should actually grow throughout our Christian lives. In fact, one sign of spiritual growth is an increased awareness of our sinfulness. Pg. 20 The Gospel for Real Life by Jerry Bridges.

I suppose this is aimed at people who already believe in god and already believe in Jesus and already believe that the Bible is the word of god and not just a collection of myths?
I don’t believe I’m a sinner, I don’t believe in sin. I believe in right and wrong and ethics, but I’m not going to take that from the Bible…the Bible is the last place I would look for ethics, or truth for that matter.
And I believe that Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort are either extremely deluded, or dishonest people who get a kick out of telling people they’re going to hell.
