Sunday Ads

One sin I battle every Sunday, is looking through those Sunday ads!  I find that when I look through them, I start to “need” stuff I didn’t really need before.  And I think the “sin” part of it is the “covetousness,” the “desire to want what I don’t have.”

I know we all probably struggle with this sin at one point, but God wants us to be content with what He’s given us.  Paul said in 1 Timothy chapter six, that “godliness with contentment is great gain.”

So, instead of  surfing through those ads, I’m working on using my time more wisely, and I’m starting to narrow it down to only look at them if I NEED something and want to see if it’s on sale.

  1. Kira,

I love your blog! God has given you a lot of wisdom in this area and at a young age! It is awesome!

This post REALLY applies to me! I struggle with wanting items (clothing, and random things) way too much. It is hard to even leave a store without buying something! This is an area that I need to grow in and this post really helped me remember that!

    Love,
    Becca

  2. Hi Becca!

Thank you so much for your comment!

I am still trying to stay away from the Sunday ads. I’ve gone three weeks without looking at them, but I’m not doing so well when I’m at the store! My weekness tends to be purses and bags, I seem to be drawn to them wherever I go!

    Love,
    Kira

  3. We are in 2010, I am very late :)

Are you still struggling with that ?

I did for a few years. I am now content with my stuffs, looking at their usefulness and not at the trends. Example: try to have a purse with enough space in it, and whose the color goes with almost all your outfits and that’s it. You don’t need to have an onverflowing wardrobe of purses !

Try to have the go-with-all basics in everything, so you won’t have to covet. That is working with me.

We were not meant to live on earth forever, that’s why we should try to avoid this kind of temptation that can steal our prayer and Bible time, and can lead us to pride.

Is our aim that people see us and think (maybe with jealousy and envy): “Look at this girl, she have all the purses, all the jewerly, all the …”. Now, when we dress and buy, its our duty to think of our sisters and brothers in Christ, as well as the unbelievers.

    Blessings :)
